Gavin was born in Cork in 1974. He became interested in drumming when he was about ten years of age, playing all the usual clichés - pots and pans, biscuit tins and plastic buckets. He eventually joined a local pipe band drum core, where he learned his rudiments and played for three years.

Gavin bought his first drum kit at the age of fourteen, which was a second hand kit comprising of various different makes of drum. Within no time, he was writing and playing with school bands and actively performing shows wherever he could. Gavin upgraded through plenty of kits over the following years, and played many gigs with various different amateur bands across the country.

Gavin started out being influenced by drummers such as Nicko McBrain and John Bonham. A few years later he discovered artists like Neil Peart, Terry Bozzio and Mike Portnoy from Dream Theatre. From this point on, Gavin became fascinated with the idea of the drum kit being a leading instrument and not just the background rhythm in a band. He now began to concentrate on exhibition drumming and far more technical patterns.

In more recent times, Gavin has been inspired by cutting-edge drummers such as Virgil Donati and Grant Collins, and subsequently has expanded his kit to include a wide array of sound sources, which consists of some hand percussion and more foot pedals. He now endeavours to convey intricate technical rhythmic patterns in a musical and entertaining performance exhibition.

Gavin’s drum solo performances have drawn a lot of public and media attention from both at home and abroad, landing him with public appearances and solo performances at numerous festivals and corporate events across Ireland, the United Kingdom and Europe.

Having recently signed a new managenent deal with artist agents and music management company Colin G Entertainment, Gavin is currently in the studio writing a theatrical solo percussion show, which is scheduled to go on tour in 2009.
